Kamehameha I (Hawaiian pronunciation: [kəmehəˈmɛhə]; ca. 1758 – May 8, 1819), also known as Kamehameha the Great, conquered the Hawaiian Islands and formally established the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi in 1810. By developing alliances with the major Pacific colonial powers, Kamehameha preserved Hawaiʻi's independence under his rule. Kamehameha is remembered for the Kanawai Mamalahoe, the "Law of the Splintered Paddle", which protects human rights of non-combatants in times of battle. Kamehameha's full Hawaiian name is Kalani Paiʻea Wohi o Kaleikini Kealiʻikui Kamehameha o ʻIolani i Kaiwikapu kaui Ka Liholiho Kūnuiākea.

More Info Join Chris Berry and the Panjea Foundation December 9-12 for BanaFest and Camp Bana-Kuma, an otherwordly opportunity for African and spirit-inspired drumming, dancing and healing on the Big Island, HI at Spencer Beach Park in North Kona!!

The Bana-Kuma is a non denominational ceremony originating from spirit mediums in Zimbabwe and Mozambique in which music and dance becomes intentional prayer. It is comprised of four different r...hythms, songs and dances that relate to the four elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air. The music and dance is said to put one in harmony with all creation and to hav a deeply healing effect on the human body and psyche. The intention of the camp will be to learn music, dance and songs of the bana-kuma and then share them with the greater community on the final night (Saturday, Dec. 11th) of the camp.

This is the third time that an event like this has been offered and this time there will be even more music performances and healing workshops to look forward to!!

Nightly Live Performances include:
Tamba, Barabajaba, Chris Berry & Friends, Mana Marimba, Korale, Spicy Sweets, Howz Dat, Shamans Dream (DJ), The New Rebelution and of course the culminating ceremony of the Bana-Kuma.

Workshops each day include:
Drum - 3 classes daily
Dance - 3 classes daily
Mbira - 2 classes daily
Marimba - 2 classes daily
Song/Lecture - 1 class daily
Also Yoga, Meditation, Lomi Lomi Healing and many more healing workshops will be offered!!

Kids are welcome to join at half price. Special workshops will be provided for kids to learn dance and performance with Waniso Berry.

Every night we will include Mbongi (song sharing and story telling) by the fire.

Another unique experience being offered is a Rugezo. This is a water cleansing ceremony that will take place during a five day stay with Chris Berry at Alithlahem just prior to the BanaFest/Camp. Alithlahem is located in Kapoho on the Puna (East) side of the Island.

Bring your own camping/bedding equiptment to the event! You can bring your own food or buy food on site at a reasonable price! There will be local food suitable for all types.

$95 for the 3 nights of camping and the live shows
$175 for camping, live shows and unlimited workshops
$15 per show and $15 per workshop
$300 for Rugezo (food and rustic accommodations included)
